"Good habits formed at youth make all the difference..."        Aristotle

The Adolescent Years (13-18)

  • Adolescence is a normal period of change and growth.
  • During adolescence, children begin to mature physically, and attempt to gain their independence and their own identity.
  • This period carries with it its own unique set of challenges for the adolescent and their family.  Open communication and mutual respect among adolescents and parents is profoundly beneficial.
  • Adolescence is also often associated with peer pressure, the desire to "fit in", bullying, fear, doubt, identity issues and the temptation to experiment with alcohol, drugs and premature sexual activity.
  • When the adolescent's identity and self-worth are rooted in the unchanging Word of God, they are more likely to succeed during this challenging period, and more likely to enjoy a stable adulthood.
  • If adolescence is associated with mental, emotional and/or behavioral issues, added challenges are posed upon the adolescent and their family.
  • Adolescents with emotional, mental and/or behavioral disorders who know, understand and live out the Word of God for their lives are better equipped to enjoy peace, joy, courage and hope despite their challenges.

In order to fully identify and address problems from the root, Dr. Fortuchang carefully assesses whether a patient's mental, emotional and/or behavioral problems are due to biological, environmental (situational) and/or spiritual causes when she conducts adolescent psychiatric evaluations.

Dr. Fortuchang's unique treatment approach is a highly effective balance between proven evidence-based psychotherapeutic techniques and medication management (when appropriate), enriched with a Christian framework and a Biblical perspective.  This allows her to address the mind, body, soul and spirit of her patients.

Does your teen know that by embracing their God-given identity, they become powerful warriors and conquerors against this fallen world?

My experience has shown that when adolescents know that "He who is in me is greater than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4);" when they believe that "no weapon formed against me shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17);" and when they understand that "if God is for me who can ever be against me (Romans 8:31)," they are better able to handle issues regarding peer pressure, bullying, identity conflict, temptation, fear and doubt that are often prevalent during the adolescent years.

The Prayer of Salvation
The Bible says, "But God demonstrates His own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8  That's the gift of salvation—the greatest gift of all!
How do we receive this gift? Romans 10:9-10 tells us, "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." When we surrender our lives to Him, the result is peace, freedom from condemnation, joy, hope, and connection with God for eternity!

If you've never accepted the love and forgiveness that Jesus has to offer, there's no better time than now. I'm not talking about becoming religious and trying to be good enough; I'm talking about having a relationship with the Creator of the universe through His Son, Jesus Christ. It's so simple.
Just pray this prayer from your heart:
"
Dear Jesus, I know I'm a sinner and I need a savior. I believe You are the Son of God, that You died, paying the price for my sins, and rose again. I ask You to come into my life. I receive You as my Lord and Savior."
